Summary:

The story, ''A Sick Day for Amos McGee,'' is a short story about a man name Amos McGee, who wakes up  early to arrive at the bus stop at 6 a.m. to go work at the Zoo. After work, Amos made time to visit his good friends; the elephant, who played chess, the tortoise who always won the races, the penguin, who always sat quietly, the rhinoceros, who always had a runny nose, and the owl, who was afraid of the dark, but Amos read stories to him. One day, Amos woke up ill, and he did not show up to work. Amos's friends waited for him, and decided to visit him at his house instead. The zoo friends in return did all the activities that Amos had done with them at the zoo. The elephant played chess with him. The tortoise played hide and seek with him. The penguin sat quietly at Amos's feet. The rhinoceros gave Amos a handkerchief, and they made a tea to make Amos feel better. In the end, the owl read a bedtime story to Amos, and they all spent the night in Amos's home.

Book Evaluation:

1) I would recommend this book to my students because the illustration is amazing. I love how Amos friends did the same activities with him, the way Amos made time for them. Amos friends really proved to be loyal friends to him by making time for him and making him feel better.

2) The appropriate grade level would be Pre-Kinder to Fourth grade.

3) I would include this book in the unit of Language Arts. After, I read the story out loud to them, I will have them draw a picture of what they took from this story, and write it out.
