Summary:

This story is about a twelve year old boy whose name is Jonas, lives in a color less world. In his community, there is no such thing as suffering, hunger, war, music, color or love. Jonas is revolved in a world where people's futures are controlled by elders. The elders get to decide, from who they will marry, who will receive their children, and what jobs they will be assigned to. There is no such thing as individualism because everyone is pretty much the same. To be released from this world would be a huge deal because it only happens to sick children, old people or if someone breaks the rules. Then, when Jonas becomes twelve years old, he is assigned to a job called the memory receiver. Once, Jonas gets the job assignment, he receives a set of rules, in which he cannot break. Jonas receives memories from the Giver. The memory that is given by the Giver, is memories of humanity that was established way before his time. Jonas is then able to perceive suffering, hunger, war, music, color and love. Jonas perspective about the world changed from here on and realized that his world never experienced emotions.

Book Evaluation:

1) I would recommend this book to my students because this book has been my all time favorite book. Although, this book has fantasy in it, there is so much thrill in its details. I just love how the author of this book makes you feel exactly what the characters in the book are feeling too. It's one of those books in which you would not be able to put the book down because of how amazing the author describes the people's emotions and scenes in it.

2) I would recommend this book, beginning from fourth grade level and up.

3) I would include this book in the unit of Language arts. I would use this book for the definition of imagery.
