In ''Hello Lighthouse'' by Sophie Blackall the new keeper arrives to replace the old, and carry on tending the light. He polished the lens, refills the oil and trims the burned end of the wick. Throughout the night, he watches the clock and keeps track of the lamp in motion, but during the day he writes in the logbook, threads his needle and listens to the unrest less winds. As the new keeper keeps in watch of the light house, he writes a love letter, throws it into the sea and expects for her reply. Then, one day, the waves and wind were enormous and strong, and the light keeper, surprisingly receives supplies for the lighthouse and sees his wife in a boat. The new keeper attends his wife very happy. One day, the new keeper got very ill, and his wife rushes to give him good hospitality. The new keeper's wife writes about it in the logbook, and he finally feels better. Inside the lighthouse, the new keeper's wife delivers her baby, and the new keeper writes in his logbook. The next day, the new keeper receives so many letters, and realizes he will not be writing in the logbook for long. After, the new keeper sees that no lamp, no wick is left to trim, he knows his work is done. So, the keeper climbs to the top of the lighthouse and closes his logbook for good. In the end, the new keeper and his family leaves the lighthouse, and lives near by to watch the lighthouse from the distance.
Evaluation of the Book:
1) I would recommend this book because I just love the illustration. From the moment I saw the front cover, I just loved the illustration. I also loved how throughout the entire story, the illustrations covered the entire pages.
2) I would recommend this story from Kindergartners to Fifth graders. Even though, it is a short story, this story would be one of those stories, elementary children from all ages would love because it has amazing illustrations and it has a little romance in it.
3) I would use this in my Art class Unit because the illustration is so fascinating to see.
