Summary:
This biographical and inspirational story is about a brave slave women named Harriet Tubman, who in this story demonstrates in how she always trusted in Moses's God. Harriet Tubman had a strong conviction in that Moses's God would always make a way to lead her into the land of the free. However, what was most inspiring about her in this story was that Harriet Tubman always talked to Moses's God and she would always asked God to lead the way. In her slave journey, there was several times where she felt like she could not make it to the free land anymore, but God always reminded her that He was there to help her through. In the end, Harriet Tubman risked her own life, in order to find freedom, and she returned to the dreaded South and rescues her family. God speaks to Harriet and reminds her how much He has blessed her, and tells her to save as many slaves as she can. So, Harriet Tubman goes to the South again and again and she frees many slaves in Canada. As, the slaves goes to the land of the free, Harriet Tubman sings her praises and gives God the glory, who helped her lead the way.
Book Evaluation:
1) I would recommend this book to my class because it is based on a true story and it is very inspiring. It allows the reader to experiment for a moment of what it must have been like to be in the slaves' shoes. I really enjoyed reading this story, and the pictures were so realistic, which made this story so great.
2) I would recommend this book to the Pre-Kinder all the way to the Third grade level.
3) I would use this book in the unit of History. I would have them get into groups, where they can explain what some of the scenes might have meant. Once, they share their thoughts, I would have them share it out to the class.
